You Are Right Where You’re Supposed to Be
A Moment That Changed Everything
Years ago, while walking through an outdoor patio at a resort, I suddenly heard a child yelling. From the tone, I immediately knew something was seriously wrong. Without hesitation, I ran toward the sound and found an 8-year-old girl struggling in the hot tub. Her long hair had caught in the water intake, pulling her under the surface.
Quickly, I jumped in, slid beneath her, and held her safely on my lap. As I wrapped my arms around her, I worked to free her hair while reassuring her, “I’ve got you, you’re safe. You’ll be okay.”
If you ever find yourself in those overwhelming moments of chaos or confusion, know that you’re not alone. In my coaching sessions, we explore how to navigate life’s uncertainty with confidence and clarity.
Finding Purpose in Uncertainty
At that time, I faced a difficult period in my life. Honestly, I felt lost and somewhat depressed. Moreover, I wasn’t sure if I was making any difference or what my next step should be. However, helping this girl reminded me that even in uncertain moments, I stood exactly where I needed to be.
Meanwhile, others nearby found the hot tub’s emergency shutdown button and stopped the water. With a gentle pull, I freed her hair. Afterwards, we climbed out, and I took her hand as we looked for her mother. When we found her, I explained what happened. Unfortunately, she dismissed the danger and didn’t realize how close her daughter came to drowning.
Before they walked away, I bent down and looked the girl in the eyes. “I’m glad you’re safe, and I’m so happy to have met you,” I said. She smiled brightly and skipped away.
Embracing Your Journey
That day, I understood that even though I didn’t know where my life was headed, I stood in the right place, doing what mattered. Sometimes, dissatisfaction and uncertainty are part of the journey we must walk.
Over time, I realized that everything I experienced shaped me. Indeed, those challenges helped me grow and become the best version of myself. As psychologist Carl Rogers once said, “The good life is a process.” That growth—earned through life’s hardest lessons—eventually brought me to a place where I could create a life of purpose and joy.
